It covers the latest advancements in bio-polymer applications at interfaces, examining their chemical structures, biological foundations, modifications, and diverse applications. The discussion highlights these materials as potential replacements for fossil-based products, while also demonstrating their broader capabilities that extend beyond simple substitution of petrochemical materials. The focus is on understanding the interfacial science of these materials, particularly the key functional groups, physical phenomena, and interactions that occur in specific environments. The book features contributions from experts in the respective fields, making it a reference for scientists, academicians, practitioners, and students who are involved in the development and application of sustainable materials.Researchers, professionals, and students in the field of materials science, physical science, and polymer science who are interested in the cutting-edge developments in bio-based materials at interfaces. Also available in print.Mode of access: World Wide Web.System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader, EPUB reader, or Kindle reader.Kai Zhang is a Professor and Head of the Department for Wood Technology and Wood based Composites at Georg-August-University of G?ottingen, Germany. He studied at Hefei University of Technology (BEng), China, and Dresden University of Technology (MS and PhD, 2011), Germany. After completing research at Dresden University of Technology, the Pennsylvania State University, and Darmstadt University of Technology, he joined the University of G?ottingen in 2015. His group's research focuses on using bio-based renewable compounds to create functional materials for sustainable development. Philip Biehl is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department for Wood Technology and Wood-based Composites at the Georg-August-University of G?ottingen, Germany. He studied at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (BS), Germany, and Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena (MS and PhD, 2020), Germany. He joined the University of G?ottingen in 2021.
