Summary.Electromagnetic Waves and Lasers reviews electromagnetic wave theory with a special emphasis on lasers and how to use them in optical systems. As a short treatise on this subject matter, this book aims to offer a quick overview that will allow the reader to gain a competent general understanding of electromagnetic waves and lasers, and how to use lasers in optical systems. Beginning with an introduction on electromagnetic waves, the book progresses to examine the application of electromagnetic wave theory, and the different aspects of working with lasers and their associated components. This second edition includes detailed information and procedures for setting up a laser optical system making it an excellent guide for those involved with using lasers.Undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals in technical fields who need a tutorial guide on electromagnetic waves and lasers. Also available in print.Mode of access: World Wide Web.System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader, EPUB reader, or Kindle reader.Dr. Wayne D Kimura received his PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1981. His first experience working with lasers was in 1975 as an undergraduate using an argon ion laser to stop bleeding ulcers. He joined STI Optronics, Inc. in 1982 and he is now President of the company. He is also an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington-Bothell. Dr. Kimura has performed extensive research in the area of lasers and their applications. This has included work on excimer, Nd:YAG, and CO2 lasers; laser-triggered spark-gap switches; glancing incidence mirror measurements; ultrashort-pulse CO2 lasers; laser acceleration of electrons; magnetic field measurements using optical fibers; and advanced accelerator research and development.Title from PDF title page (viewed on December 4, 2020).
