Discussion. This volume intends to provide a brief research source for building technology and regulations in terms of energy efficiency, discussing fundamental aspects as well as cutting-edge trends for new buildings and retrofitting the current building stock. Sources of renewable and sustainable energy production and storage are additionally reviewed, with case studies of such systems on buildings in a cold climate. This volume also provides industry professionals, researchers and students with the most updated review on modern building ideas, and renewable energy technologies that can be coupled with them. Part of IOP Series in Renewable and Sustainable Power. The general target audience for this book spans industry professionals, researchers and graduate students, especially those starting on a new topic of research or coming into the field. This book is intended for an international readership and will be written in a clear manner with minimal jargon where possible. Primary audience comprises: building engineers; engineering students; and renewable energy researchers and students. Within our institution (NTNU), there are two principal courses (MSc, MEng) that would benefit from the coverage in this book: Energy Storage Technologies, Sustainable Energy Systems. Also available in print.Mode of access: World Wide Web.System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader, EPUB reader, or Kindle reader.Jacob J. Lamb has worked since 2018 as a senior researcher at NTNU on a variety of projects within the fields of biology, bioenergy, renewable energy, sensor technologies and energy storage. His areas of expertise include photosynthesis, microbiology, biological and biochemical techniques, electronics and programming, renewable energy, energy storage, sensor technologies, optical spectroscopy and process engineering. His research motivation is to improve renewable energy sources, increase sustainability within agricultural and aqua-cultural industries, develop technologies for climate change mitigation, as well as develop ways to measure, analyse, and optimise biological processes. Bruno G. Pollet AFIChemE FRSC is a full Professor of Renewable Energy at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim and an Extraordinary Professor in Hydrogen Energy at the University of the Western Cape (RSA) in Cape Town. He currently leads the "NTNU Team Hydrogen" and heads up the "NTNU Hydrogen Energy and Sonochemistry research group". His research covers a wide range of areas in Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Engineering, Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Sono-electrochemistry (Power Ultrasound in Electrochemistry) from the development of novel electrolyser & fuel cell materials, CO2 conversion, to water treatment/disinfection demonstrators & prototypes.Title from PDF title page (viewed on May 6, 2020).
