Highlighting the most recent progress and trends in optical fiber technology, this book covers important topics such as specialty optical fibers, optical amplifiers, radiation dosimetry, borosilicate glass, radiation effect, fiber optic temperature sensors, pulsed fiber lasers, non-linear fiber optics, solitons, supercontinuum generation, and fiber-optic-based 5G networks. Solely devoted to the most recent achievements in the development of different varieties of specialty optical fibers, this book serves as a universal resource for future development in the field while providing students, researchers, and technology managers with valuable, timely, and unbiased information on the subject. Part of IOP Series in Emerging Technologies in Optics and Photonics.Researchers working in the fields of fiber optics, as well as engineers and technicians involved with the fiber-optics industry. Also available in print.System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader, EPUB reader, or Kindle reader.Mode of access: World Wide Web."M?ario F.S. Ferreira is a Professor at Physics Department of University of Aveiro, Portugal. His research interests include modelling and characterization of multi-section semiconductor lasers for coherent systems, quantum well lasers, optical fiber amplifiers and lasers, soliton propagation, nanophotonics, polarization and nonlinear effects in optical fibers. He has written more than 350 scientific journal and conference publications, twenty book chapters, and five books, including Nonlinear Effects in Optical Fibers (Wiley & OSA, 2011), Topics on Mathematical Physics (ECM, Bazil, 2018), and Optical Signal Processing in Highly Nonlinear Fibers (CRC Press, 2020). He has edited four books and four special issues concerning optical fiber technology and applications. He is a Travelling Lecturer of both OSA and SPIE. Mukul Chandra Paul is a senior principal scientist at the Fiber Optics and Photonics Division, Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, Jadavpur, Kolkata, India. His research work is focused on optical materials related to the development of various types of specialty optical fibers for the making of fiber-based photonics devices and components. He had a strong international collaborative research network with different countries such as UK, France, Malaysia, Portugal, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Russia, Mexico, Japan and Indonesia. He has published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, written seven book chapters, and edited one book, Fiber Lasers (Nova Science Publishers, 2017). He also holds 7 US patents and has filed 4 Indian patents.Title from PDF title page (viewed on September 1, 2021).
