Basic principles for identifying anomalies associated with the preparation of earthquakes -- 4.2. Techniques for ionospheric precursors' identification -- 4.3. Multi-sensor networking analysis (MSNA) introduction5. Principles of physical-based short-term EQ forecast -- 5.1. Testing new methodologies for short-term earthquake forecasting : multi-parameters precursors -- 5.2. Precursors versus triggers, retarders and recurrent events. This book uses a holistic approach to address the problems of earthquake forecasting, demonstrating the earthquake preparation process as a complex system because of the interaction of different geospheres. The purpose of the book is to widen the understanding of the earthquake preparation process and to inform the audience that not only seismometers are necessary for earthquake forecasting. It demonstrates that applications of space technologies like remote sensing, in-situ measurements, and GPS TEC provide rich information on the process and help to conclude that the earthquake is coming. The authors explain the physical nature of the observed pre-earthquake anomalies from one side and demonstrate how their approach is working by utilizing rich illustrations of precursory phenomena in different geospheres. Also available in print.Mode of access: World Wide Web.System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader, EPUB reader, or Kindle reader.Sergey Pulinets is a principal research scientist in the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. He has more than 35 years of experience in space plasma physics, physics of the ionosphere, and geophysics. As senior scientist of Institue of Geophysics of UNAM, he spent several years in Mexico studying the physical precursors of earthquakes, and mechanisms of their generation. Dimitar Ouzounov received his PhD in geophysics at the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. Since October 2009 he has been an associate professor in geophysics at the Center of Excellence in Earth Systems Modeling & Observations, Chapman University, Orange, CA. He is the author of about two hundred papers and conference proceedings. He has co-authored two other books with Dr. Pulinets on pre-earthquake processes and earthquake precursors in the atmosphere and ionosphere.Title from PDF title page (viewed on January 16, 2019).
