Sperrin, Malcolm, - Personal Name; Institute of Physics (Great Britain), - Personal Name; Winder, Jon, - Personal Name;

"Version: 20141201"--Title page verso.Introduction -- Author biographies -- Basic physics -- X-ray imaging -- Imaging theory -- Radiation protection -- Computed tomography -- Ultrasound -- Magnetic resonance -- Nuclear medicine.Knowledge of scientific principles is also mandated as a result of a need to understand best and safest practice, especially in the use of ionising radiation where legislation, guidance and risk all form part of a medical specialists' pressures at work. It is no surprise therefore that radiologists are obliged to study and pass physics exams. Such exams can present a considerable challenge and the authors of this work recognise and sympathise with that challenge and have created a volume which that is intended to be an educational resource and not just a pre-exam 'crammer.' Both authors have considerable experience in teaching, supporting and examining in medical science and have developed an awareness of where those sitting professional exams have traditionally struggled. This text is a distillation of that experience.Graduate students in medical physics and clinicians and technologists preparing for the Royal College of Radiologists Fellowship examinations.Also available in print.Mode of access: World Wide Web.System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader."Prof. Malcolm Sperrin is the Director of the Department of Medical Physics, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, UK. Dr. John Winder is Reader in Healthcare Science at the Institute of Nursing and Health Research, University of Ulster, N. Ireland and a clinical scientist specialising in medical physics and medical imaging. Before coming to the University of Ulster he was a Principal Clinical Scientist in the NI Medical Physics Agency. He is a physics graduate and has a PhD in 3D medical imaging and rapid prototyping. Within the broad field of medical imaging he specialises in 3D visualisation, 3D modelling, the application of medical imagery in surgical planning and patient assessment, manufacture of patient-specific custom implants, image registration, and the use of images for objective measurement. He works with neurosurgical, maxillofacial, orthopaedic and breast surgeons in the use of virtual and real models of human anatomy. This has involved the development of software and image-processing techniques for virtual surgery applied to cranial facial defects, and in the treatment of fibrous dysplasia. Research is also undertaken in both equipment and materials performance within the area of additive manufacturing."Title from PDF title page (viewed on February 3, 2015).
