Edward Burne-Jones : Art et intrigue

Sir Edward Jones, né en 1833 et mort en 1898, fut un maître du dessin, de la peinture sur verre et de la céramique. D'abord inspiré par Botticelli, Mantegna et Michel-Ange, il subit l'influence de Gabriel Rossetti et des premières œuvres préraphaélites. Peu concerné par les détails de la vie quotidienne, il emprunte les sujets de ses compositions aux légendes et à la littérature médiévale. Il produit des œuvres qui idéalisent la femme anglaise de l'époque victorienne. L'ouvrage rend hommage à cette figure du libertinage correct que fut Sir Edward Burne-Jones.
