Henri Fantin-Latour, né en 1836, mort en 1904. Il entre à l'École des beaux-arts en 1854. Il a pour condisciple Edgar Degas. En 1861, il fréquente l'atelier de Gustave Courbet. Membre du Cénacle des Batignolles d'où naitra l'Impressionnisme, FantinLatourrénove le portrait collectif avec de grands tableaux-manifestes : Hommage à Delacroix, 1864 ; Un atelier aux Batignolles, hommage à Manet, 1870 ; Un coin de table, hommage aux poètes parnassiens, 1872, dont Verlaine et Rimbaud ; 1885 Autour du piano, hommage aux musiciens. Possédez par la Passion de la musique : de Berlioz, Schumann et Wagner, FantinLatour la transcrit dans ces peintures, Il est l'ami de Manet, Verlaine. Ses œuvres les plus célèbres : Autoportrait à 17 ans, Lille, palais des beaux-arts, Hommage à Delacroix, (1864), Paris, musée d'OrsayUn atelier aux Batignolles, (1870), Paris, musée d'Orsay, Un coin de table, (1872), Paris, musée d'Orsay, Trois filles du Rhin 1876, Paris, musée d'Orsay, Baigneuses 1879, musée des beaux-arts de Lyon, Autour du piano, (1885), Paris, musée d'Orsay, La Famille Dubourg (1887), Paris, musée d'Orsay.
