It looks at the microbe from a physics perspective, asking how the cell optimizes its function to live within the constraints of physics. He began his scientific career in experimental condensed matter physics, studying high temperature superconductivity. Most recently his research work has focused on unravelling noisy regulatory pathways in quorum sensing bacteria.
